Jeff Wolnitzek, former Fort Wright council member and involved community member, passed away on December 27, 2024.  The city honored his life and work with a proclamation at the January City Council meeting.

Wolnitzek served on city council, as a representative on the Fort Wright Board of Adjustments, and as assistant fire chief with Fort Wright’s Volunteer Fire and Life Squad Department. He also worked with the Wolnitzek Family Foundation among other aid and philanthropy projects.

The city recognized Wolnitzek’s contributions to Fort Wright by proclaiming Jan. 15, 2025 as “Jeff Wolnitzek Day.” Mayor Dave Hatter also presented Wolnitzek’s present family members with a commemorative plaque.

Hatter and other members of the Fort Wright government spoke fondly about working with Wolnitzek.

“I knew him well,” councilman Scott Wall said. “He was the best.”

“I sat right next to Jeff when I served on Fort Wright city council,” Hatter said. “I have nothing but respect for him. He was super smart and prepared. He did an amazing job for the city.”
