Fort Henry Reconstruction - Phase 2
Beginning Immediately - Until Further Notice

This week TMS Construction began the final phase of the Fort Henry reconstruction project. Phase 2 will take place between Amsterdam Road and the newer concrete section at 422 Fort Henry, and between Pickett Drive and General Drive.

Similar to Phase 1, this phase of construction will consist of complete removal of the existing roadway before the new concrete roadway is poured. Underdrains will be installed beneath the new roadway to direct ground water from under the pavement into the storm drains. This helps to protect the subgrade and the new street from water damage in future years.

The contract cost for Phase 2, awarded to TMS Construction earlier this year, is $542,245.00. Six bids for this project were received on February 29th, TMS was the lowest and best bid for this portion of the project.  Phase 1 of this project was completed by Jefferson Contractors last fall with a final cost of $989,212.50. Phase 1 came in $7,617.50 under budget. Both phases of the project include some storm infrastructure work. The cost of the storm infrastructure work is shared with the Sanitation District (SD1) through a 50/50 cost share program.

On July 8th, crews began work on the Amsterdam end of Fort Henry near the intersection of Glengarry. A faster setting concrete mix will be used near this intersection so work in this area can be completed before school begins. While each concrete pour cures near the Glengarry intersection, crews will work between Pickett Drive and General Drive. Work will alternate between these locations until the project is complete. Access will be maintained to Glengarry Drive during construction however periodic delays should be expected.

We thank you for your patience as we work to complete the final phase of this major infrastructure improvement project.
