The Snow Emergency that was officially issued for the City of Fort Wright on Thursday, February 3rd at 7:00 am will be rescinded as of 6 pm this evening (Friday, February 4, 2022).
Winter Weather is predicted to continue with the potential for additional snow showers this evening that may produce up to another 1/2" of snow. Additionally, the threat of icy road conditions still exist as temperatures and the wind chill remain below freezing. Please exercise caution when traveling.
A special thank you to ALL of our emergency response staff, but especially to the Fort Wright Public Works Crew who reported for duty in the early morning hours of Thursday and have worked almost continuously throughout this winter weather event. With only three full-time employees and some part-time help from other departments, they are responsible for maintaining over 100 streets that amount to nearly 80 miles of roadway including from time to time some very heavily travelled state roads such as KY 17, Highland Pike, and Dixie Highway. They have done an excellent job responding to this winter weather and worked many long and tedious hours. We thank them for their dedication to the community.
Winter Weather is still a concern until Spring. We recommend that all residents know the risks associated with Severe Winter Weather and have in place winter weather emergency plans. Checks batteries in flashlights, radios, and other devices. Fully charge cell phones. Stock up on water and non-perishable food items. If you have a generator, make sure it is working properly and that you are familiar with using it safely. Be a good neighbor and offer assistance to elderly neighbors and other "at-risk" individuals within your vicinity.
