The City of Fort Wright is home to many acres of beautiful and historical green spaces that we have worked to preserve over the years. These first generation parks are a key component to enhancing the quality of life for our residents and also help to provide and develop a sense of community.
To date, park infrastructure across the community has primarily been focused on nature and passive recreation, with an interest in promoting physical fitness via walking and hiking trails as well as some playground equipment for our youngest generation to enjoy.
Currently, Fort Wright boasts these fantastic greenspaces: The Nature Center; Battery Hooper Park, Volunteer Park, Fort Tot, the Monarch Way Station Sensory Garden, and the Veteran's Memorial. As our community grows and evolves, we feel strongly that it's time to evaluate and invest in next generation recreational opportunities. Each of these recreational facilities provides their own unique landscape and amenities. We want to preserve the individualized traits and characteristics that enhance their rich history (the Battery Hooper Battery for example), while also adding improvements that will encourage our residents and businesses to get out and enjoy them. We also have the South Hills Civic Center available to Fort Wright residents for event rentals. This facility is very popular and we'd also like your input on how we can improve this space.
We have solicited bids from a local consultant to help us determine how to best move forward with future improvements to our two most significant properties, Battery Hooper Park and The South Hills Civic Center. We will be reviewing these proposals in the near future.
Please note that at this time, all of our parks and facilities remain open for your enjoyment as we are only in the preliminary stages of any potential improvements.
As we begin this process to evaluate and improve YOUR parks and facilities, we welcome your input regarding the amenities and improvements you would like to see in Fort Wright. Please send us an email to [email protected] to tell us how all of YOUR local parks can better serve you!
