On Monday and Tuesday of next week Ford Development will be working on removing the intersections of Fort Henry, Redwood, and Amsterdam. During the day as this work is being done the intersection will be closed but should be open to traffic in the evenings. However, the contractor will be working late on Monday evening to get this work completed making way for the curb contractors who are tentatively scheduled to move in on Tuesday. Road closed signs and detour signage will be in place to guide vehicles around the closure. Ingress and egress to the Fort Henry/General Drive area will need to be accessed from Amsterdam at General during the closure. We are beginning to see a glimmer of light at the end of this tunnel. We appreciate your patience as we continue to work toward completion of this project.

Beginning on May 17th Ford Development will begin removing the old pavement on Amsterdam between Morris and Redwood. After a meeting yesterday the decision was made to begin pavement removal at the intersection of Morris and Amsterdam working toward Redwood. If the weather cooperates and all goes well the pavement removal should take a little over a week. As the pavement is being removed a stone base will be placed, so residents will be able to get to and from their homes, although there may be some minor delays. Once that is removed the curbs will be installed on the north side of the road beginning at Fort Henry moving toward Morris where they will turn around and head toward Redwood. The curb work should take a few days. Grade work will be finished after that and the asphalt base will be placed. Driveway aprons will begin to be installed on the north side of the road the day after the curb goes in. The concrete contractors working on the driveways will be following behind the curb contractors. Sidewalk installation and restoration will need to be complete before the final surface layer is installed. The asphalt contractor will install the surface layer from one end of the project to the other. This schedule is dependent on the weather cooperating; however, we are still anticipating completion of this project this summer. If you do not live between Morris and Fort Henry please avoid the area while construction is taking place. Additional traffic will only slow the process. Thank you for your patience as we work toward completion of the Amsterdam Road Project.

We have received a few questions about whether Amsterdam Road will open below General to allow access to Bromley Crescent Springs Road once the base layer is down between Morris and General. This will remain closed until the project is complete. If we open Amsterdam before the project is complete, we will likely have a lot of traffic coming through, especially when northbound 75 is slow or stopped. First off, we cannot have all that traffic coming through the work zone. Second, if we allow the traffic to come through while work is being done between Morris and Redwood most of those vehicles will end up crossing through the Morris Road/Barrington area. We do not want to have that volume of traffic coming through those side streets.

Curbs were installed this week on the section of Amsterdam between Morris Road and General Drive and crews are working on driveway aprons. Eaton was scheduled to come in tomorrow to begin installing a base layer of asphalt. However, the forecast is calling for rain beginning tonight through tomorrow that could be heavy at times, so they have been rescheduled for Monday weather permitting.
