WEST CRITTENDEN SPEED SURVEY
MAY 4-17, 2020
In response to concerns raised by residents on West Crittenden, the Police Department conducted a speed analysis study to evaluate the situation and find solutions to any identified problems. The statistical information can be viewed here.
The study resulted in a finding that the average speed was 19mph which is 6mph below the posted limit of 25mph. 97.4% of the vehicles traveling on West Crittenden during the study were at or below the posted speed limit. Approximately 64% of the vehicles were traveling at least 5mph below the speed limit. These results substantiate the fact that 25mph is the correct speed limit for West Crittenden.
While the overall results were good news, there are still 2.6% of the vehicles exceeding the speed limit on a street that has many children at play as well as adult residents walking dogs, etc. We as a police department will do our part to obtain compliance of the violators through an increased presence at peak times and through educational efforts on the dangers of excessive speed in residential areas. The goal is to ensure safety and we will do our best to make that happen.
