Farmers from Kenton County are presenting the 9th Annual Kenton County Farm Harvest Tour. This tour is a down-on-the-farm family event where everyone can learn about the origins of food and fiber.
Education partners are helping to tell the story of farming and the importance of agriculture in all our lives. At Piner Elementary School, Kentucky Department of Agriculture will host the Mobile Science Activity Center. This 44 foot trailer has 10 iPad interactive work stations where kids can conduct investigations and activities related to agriculture and the environment. At The Kenton County Extension office there will be great opportunities to learn about culinary herbs in our display gardens. In addition, Kentucky State University will have two education displays on hand. The Aquaculture department at KSU will be featuring fish and the Mobile Food Processing Unit will be on hand to talk about food preservation. “We are glad to showcase some of the great agriculture research that is being done at Kentucky State University” said Linda Brown-Price, Area Specialist for Family and Consumer Sciences Agent. “Along with UK, KSU assists small farms in Kentucky by offering education classes like farm-raised fish, and a commercial kitchen available for food processing,” added Ms. Price. This self-contained mobile unit will be on display in the parking lot of the Extension Office. All farm stops encourage the participants to ask questions about life on a Kentucky family farm. There are lots opportunities to learn about the importance of agriculture.
