Mr. Hempel lived in large building on left (Lookout House) at this time. Picture taken between 1904-1907. Long white building is where horses were stabled for wealthy people, especially for funerals which Mr. Hempel brought food for people to eat. Building behind is a bowling alley.

TOP: Turning Back the Clock - Joseph Kuchle Horse Shoeing Wagon and Plow Work Shop, built 1900. BOTTOM: The horse and buggy days were diminishing and the automobile was coming into existence. The blacksmith shop was turned into a garage and in 1922 this garage was built. In 1948 an addition was put onto the north side of the garage. This included a show room for new cars. In 1948 Crosley and Lincoln Mercury were sold and in 1951 Kaiser cars were sold. In 1948 a Crosley with radio and rear view mirror as extras sold complete for $1083.86. The Crosley cars were built in Marion, Indiana and driven from Marion to the garage to be sold. Donated by Carol Whitehead
